Joshua Kimmich, the Bayern Munich midfielder, has been ruled out for several weeks with a knee ligament injury.

The German international sustained the injury during the club's training session on Monday and is expected to miss at least three matches before he can return to action.

Kimmich was involved in a collision with a teammate during the warm-up session and immediately left the pitch. He underwent X-rays and scans to confirm the extent of his injury, which was later confirmed as a ligament tear.

The midfielder has already undergone surgery and will be undergoing further treatment over the coming days and weeks. The club is hoping that he can make a full recovery and resume playing soon.

Kimmich, who joined Bayern from Schalke in 2016, has made more than 250 appearances for the club since joining and has also represented Germany at senior level.

The injury comes at a crucial time for Bayern, who are currently top of the Bundesliga table and are also in the Champions League semi-finals.

Bayern will need to find a replacement for Kimmich in their midfield, but it remains to be seen how quickly they can find one and integrate them into the team.

In the meantime, Bayern will have to rely on their other midfielders such as Javi Martinez, Leon Goretzka and Thiago Alcântara to fill in for Kimmich's absence.
