Jadon Sancho has made a strong impression on the Borussia Dortmund team after making his debut in their opening Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg. The 18-year-old England international, who joined from Manchester United in August for a fee reported to be over £75 million, was given the nod ahead of established centre-back Eric Kondogbia and young right-back Nico Minjesty.
The 6ft 4in Sancho looked comfortable on the ball and showed a lot of composure as he played out wide on the left side of the pitch. He had some neat touches, good pace and quick feet, which allowed him to create chances for himself and others around him. He also showed some defensive skills when he won a tackle at the back post to deny Wolfsburg's striker, Kevin Volland.
Sancho is a talented player with great potential and he will no doubt have impressed many people watching his performance. He could well go on to become one of the best players in the Bundesliga and potentially even for England at the next World Cup. He may not have been the most impressive player on the pitch but his presence and attitude certainly helped to lift his teammates up and they were able to play with more confidence knowing that there was someone so young with such talent on the bench.
Overall, it was a positive start to life for Sancho and it will be interesting to see how he develops throughout the season and what kind of impact he can make for Dortmund. It will also be interesting to see if he can replicate his performances in the Europa League where he scored twice in three games this season, helping Dortmund to reach the semi-finals before losing to Sevilla.
