Marcelo Santos was born on October 15, 1967, in the small town of Jundiai, Brazil. His father, João Marcelo, was a professional soccer player and his mother, Ana Maria, was also a former professional athlete. From a young age, Marcelo showed an aptitude for football and began playing with his family's local team, the Jundiai Wanderers.
In 2004, at just 18 years old, Marcelo joined the youth academy of the Flamengo FC (Futebol Clube de Brasília), one of Brazil’s oldest clubs. This experience not only honed his skills but also prepared him for the competitive league that would come to define his career.
At Flamengo, Marcelo started as a goalkeeper and gradually progressed to play various positions including defender, midfielder, and finally as a forward.
